Volunteer & Chaperone Code of Conduct
The following policies apply to all adult summit participants.
Background checks & screening
All volunteers/chaperones in sustained contact with minors must complete required background checks/consent and reference checks per Minnesota school guidance.
Mandatory reporting & duty to act
If you suspect child abuse, neglect, or sexual misconduct, report immediately to the designated event Safety Lead and to authorities as required by Minn. Stat. §626.556. Do not investigate yourself. Documentation is required. MN Revisor's Office
No one-on-one private contact
Avoid one-on-one, isolated interactions with minors. If a private conversation is necessary, do it in view of others or with another adult present and document the meeting.
Respect boundaries
No sexual/romantic interactions, inappropriate jokes, physical contact that could be misinterpreted, or sharing of alcohol/drugs with minors.
Overnight supervision & rooming
Adults do not sleep in the same room as unrelated minors. Use separate rooms and clearly assigned supervisors for each set of rooms.
Training & paperwork
Review and sign event handbook covering child protection, behavior expectations, emergency procedures, and a review of the Infractions Policy. Carry identification at all times.
Conduct & role modeling
Model the behavior expected of participants: punctuality, respectful language, sober behavior, and adherence to safety protocols.
Reporting unusual behavior
Report any boundary/grooming concerns or policy deviations immediately to the Safety Lead.
